Student Projects / Summer 2014

Ready to take flight
Would you believe a lightbulb
is underneath it all?

A 10-year old student had a hoot repurposing an
assortment of found objects
Exploring mark-making in black-n-white on brown

A teen sketched her pillow design, cut the leather,
sewed together the 4 sides & sketched the free-motion stitching for me to add.

The technique of fusing plastic bags was introduced.
This student then took her newly-made "plastic cloth" home and used it to cover her block hooks.
 Very cool !

Purple Pig did not forget to stop and smell the roses.

This student wrote his name in bold marker lettering,
water-colored the negative space, cut apart the squares and rearranged the pieces

Found-object fish
Art in the summer studio moved along swimmingly.

Top 2012 In My Studio

Construction / Repurposing / Paint
Sgraffito / Free-motion stitching = one big smile from me.

Mum's The Word.
It was worthwhile to do a little remodeling on one of my Fowl-Playhouses.
I stepped up to bat, took a ball and got a trophy.
SOLD -before I could even take a better photo.

Second Place
Among other things, I got into sculptural teapots.
This was my first one ... now at home with Indigo26 in Texas.
I was treated to a nice Artist In the Spotlight interview there, too.

Green Tea

Red Zinger

*Earl Grey is still brewing in my studio.

*The parts department.

So proud of my students' shoe sculptures. No kit; just creative wit.
They even received a shout-out in a ClothPaperScissors editor's blog.

from farm find ...
... to Danforth Museum School Gallery exhibit.

Soooo glad sewing is second nature.
I can't leaf it alone.

Love doing my free-motion stitching on leather applique pillow designs.

Vintage Farm Timber Meets Fused Plastic Bags

Past Meets Present. (15"x 34"x11")

Pieced and fused plastic bags meet free-motion stitching for another mod transformation.
Wheres the wiring?  Vintage grater gets magically illuminated.
I'm visualizing the original implement attached to a farming wagon.
Considering this piece has been weathering for a century,
perseverance was necessary to get the hardware loosened and off. A sibling lamp is in the works.
My vision came to fruition with the kind assistance of
acquaintances managing tall drill presses. (BIG sigh)

... at the Sudbury Art Association Holiday Market

salvaged samples repurposed as soft "leather-wear': cuffs, pedants, lapel pins
fused plastic bag belts

Farming implements repurposed in my Noyes Farm Series
a fruitful trio made from pieced and fused plastic bags

Snowgnomes ... mischievous winter folk
                                                               ode to Noyes farm
Coveralls
- two sold from the countertop
before tags could even be place

Meeting interesting people,
making connections with the potential of prosperity,
feeling community, sharing about repurposing,
exchanging creative ideas ... all good.

2011 Fall Art Classes

Fall art sessions inspired students to look at discarded objects with new eyes.
These rockin' Walldolls will shake-up plain walls with new life.

She gathered the clues for a different type of Nancy Drew mystery.

Food Fight!
Hand-drills, pliers, glue guns, wire, heavy-duty scissors ... tools of the trade.

Four Fun Fridays of Fusing ...
Everybody loved the "magic" in repurposing and fusing plastic bags.

Students made fused plastic bag wall hangings, wrap-mounted on repurposed timber.
* I add the free-motion sewing.

These beautiful student-produced table lanterns glow from within using tea-lights.

Imagine the possibilities!
